Eco-Products 2008 is an Eco technology expo that is being held at the Tokyo Big Sight from December 11 - 13.
The theme of this years event is "CO2 minus 50% eco-life" or reducing carbon dioxide (CO2) greenhouse gas emissions by half. This years show has the largest amount of companies and organizations participating with 758 total. The ECO industry is one of the bright spots in a gloomy business climate.
Several highlghts include a water heater being fueled by newspaper using newspaper bricks made via an eco-friendly product, the Newspaper Brick Maker (as profiled in this clip from Eco-Messe 2008), a planter and watering system (which detects when the soil is dry and can automatically supply a weeks worth of water) made with recycled PET bottles, a thin (enough to see through) solar cell panel which can generate electricity from multidirectional/indirect /reflected light for low powered devices, and a waterless eco-toilet.
A regular flush toilet requires around 8 liters (2.1 gallons) of water per flush. With the eco-toilet (which can also be seen in the video in this linked feature), a handle is turned which draws air into the toilet and benign bacteria breaks down waste into an odorless compost which can be used in gardens.
